Málaga will be home to a quantum computer that will put it on the European computing map
The installation of the computer will be made possible by the collaboration agreement signed on Monday by the university’s rector, Teodomiro López, and the president of Quantum Labs, Javier Romero.
This agreement establishes the conditions for the installation and operation of an advanced quantum system based on superconducting technology from the company Origin, which will be housed at the SCBI facilities in the Málaga TechPark technology park, strengthening the scientific and technological capabilities of the local innovation ecosystem in a strategic area for the development of emerging technologies. The system incorporates an ultra-low-vibration design and advanced quantum control and measurement technologies, and will require a highly specialized technical infrastructure, including cryogenic cooling systems and an estimated electrical power of up to 80 kilowatts.
